May 18, 1996 ~ Soundgarden appear on SNL …

Come together

April 24, 1976 ~ Lorne Michaels takes a shot at getting The Beatles to get back together.

(Paul and Linda were visiting John and Yoko in NY and actually – for a few short minutes John and Paul actually thought about taking a cab to the SNL studios.)

A few months later, George Harrison is the musical guest on SNL … and The Quiet One thinks he’s got some money due …

They were 106 miles from Chicago, they had a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it was dark and they were wearing sunglasses.

Originally, Jake and Elwood were a simple warm-up for the audience before the live shows on SNL.

“It was Marshall Checker, of the legendary Checker brothers, who first discovered them in the gritty blues clubs of Chicago’s South Side in 1969 and handed them their big break nine years later with an introduction to music-industry heavyweight and host of television’s Rock Concert, Don Kirshner.”

Actually, none of that is true, but it’s the story that Saturday Night Live‘s Paul Shaffer told on April 22, 1978 as he announced the worldwide television debut of that night’s musical guest, The Blues Brothers—the not-quite-real, not-quite-fake musical creation of SNL cast members Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.”

They go on to be the first from the SNL cast to have their own movie. Their albums sell in the millions. They were — on a mission from God.
