49 years ago today, Joni Mitchell released her iconic album, Blue. To mark the occasion, we’re revisiting our 2000 interview with the legendary singer-songwriter.
The Rhodes Scholar Army Captain was the janitor at Columbia Records studios when Dylan was recording Blonde On Blonde. He ends up being one of the greatest songwriter/performers on the planet.

The Chirp releases her fourth album. Rolling Stone puts it at #30 on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. NPR calls it the greatest album of all time made by a woman. I want to be buried with it when I go because I can’t imagine eternity without it.

55 years ago, Dylan struggled with the song. Al Kooper, his keyboard player, suggested a “rock” format and promptly improvised the famous organ riff.
Over the years, it became clear the song was revolutionary in more than its lyrics. It’s considered one of the most influential compositions in rock. It’s #1 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. And, in 2014, the handwritten lyrics from the pencil of Dylan fetched over $2M at auction.
It was the band’s first performance in the UK since 1975 …
