November 5, 1996 ~ Johnny Cash releases the second of his American recordings
Unchained, also known as “American II: Unchained”, is the second album in Johnny Cash’s American Recordings series (and his 82nd overall). Like all Cash’s albums for American, “Unchained” was produced by Rick Rubin.
It’s 1971 and the beginning of Stevie’s “classic” period. He releases “Talking Book” on October 27 and after all the accolades and awards, it ends up at #90 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
I had just graduated from high school, trying to figure out what the hell do with my life when, on October 27, 1975, this guy appeared on both covers of the leading weekly print news outlets. I decided I needed to find out what this was all about. Couple years later, I was working in rock n’ roll radio.
