My favorite Steve Earle album turns 20 today …
The Hardcore Troubadour releases “Transcendental Blues” on June 6, 2000.
Don’t you ever hang up your highway shoes, Steve …
I could sit and listen to this man tell stories for hours. And, I agree with Banjo.
This is good.
I didn’t fully appreciate what life on the road gave me until suddenly it was gone.
John Hiatt releases “Same Old Man” on May 27, 2008 …
Happy 75th to singer-songwriter, humanitarian Bruce Cockburn …
Jason has become one of the best writers in the country. And my idea of really good writers is Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan.David Crosby
Polly Jean releases her 9th album on April 15, 2016. Many (including me) call it one of her best and it ends up nominated for a Grammy.
It’s not without some controversy, though. “The Community of Hope”, drew criticism directly from politicians running for the council seat in Ward 7 in Washington, D.C., with former DC Mayor Vincent C. Gray saying “I will not dignify this inane composition with a response”, and his campaign treasurer Chuck Thies insulting Harvey with “PJ Harvey is to music what Piers Morgan is to cable news.”
Laura Snapes of Pitchfork asked, “By pointing out the problems in these three communities, but proposing no solutions, is she (Harvey) just as responsible for their desertion as the global powers that came before her?”
Personally, me thinks it’s just a classic example of the over-zealous PC police. PJ has never been a policy wonk but she’s been a keen observer of life with all its glory and all its bad. Deal with it.
