January 13, 1974 ~ Gram’s critically acclaimed album is released 4 months after his death.
There’s a whole bunch of backstory to the album. Most notable being that the album was originally to be credited to both Gram and Emmylou Harris with both on the cover. However, Gram’s wife, Gretchen, never did care much for her husband’s musical relationship with Gram and summarily removed Emmylou, giving just a written credit on the back cover, featuring Gram in a sea of blue on the front. Gretchen also removed entirely the original title track to the album — “Sleepless Nights.”
For me, the album is a must-have. It’s #425 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
