U2 release their sophomore album on October 12, 1981 …

U2’s second album was lyrically inspired by the memberships of Bono, the Edge, and Larry Mullen Jr. in a Christian group called the “Shalom Fellowship,” and pushed the spiritual and religious themes in “October.” In fact, it led them to question the relationship between the Christian faith and the rock n’ roll lifestyle, and threatened to break up the band.

Clearly, they found a way for rock ‘n roll and Jesus to coexist. Thank God.
