David and Jerry Zucker, along with Jim Abrahams, got together to create a parody on the disaster movies of the late 70’s and came up with what’s become a damn cult classic.
It was released on July 2, 1980 and was an immediate hit. In 2010, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”
Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker (ZAZ) grew up in Wisconsin (Shorewood) and they all attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison. It makes sense, then, that the Wisco Dept of Tourism would approach ZAZ to help with promoting tourism in Wisconsin.
They didn’t disappoint.
