“Are we loose?”

October 2, 1975.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band are scheduled for the Uptown Theatre in Milwaukee but a bomb scare delays the deed. The Boss retires to The Pfister bar to wait out the bomb sniffers. He settles in, performs a couple songs for the crowd and upon getting the “all clear” for the Uptown, proclaims “I’m a little loose” and catches a ride to the theatre atop a record promoter’s car. The set at the Uptown is epic. And, if you’ve caught Springsteen in Milwaukee since, you’ve probably heard him ask, “Are we loose?” … a hat-tip to that night when he was too loose to fake.
