Roky Erickson, Legendary Psychedelic Musician, Dies at 71

Sad news. Roky had a rough go of it the last part of his life but got it back together for a good, long final run. He was a trail-blazer — doing things with his pen, his band, his voice and his guitar — long before others. Some say he didn’t get his props (it did start to come lately thanks to Dave Grohl) but that simply didn’t matter to Roky.

Roky Erickson, frontman for psychedelic band the 13th Floor Elevators and a leading light of Texas rock, died Friday. He was 71.
